Finnish project to turn waste cotton into clothing
 A pioneering research project in Finland claims it will next year launch its first clothing line using waste cotton fibres via a cellulose dissolution technique. The project organisers claim this will be the first time cellulose solution made from recycled materials has been wet-spun on "an industrial scale."

ZDHC update puts focus on implementation
 The Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Group has said it will focus on implementing the Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL), engaging with academia and the industry to encourage research into the development of safer alternatives and to conduct research on priority chemicals, harmonising the ZDHC audit tool with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, and the development of wastewater quality guidelines.

The European Chemicals Agency has backed proposals by Norway and Germany to restrict the manufacture, marketing and use of PFOA, its salts and PFOA-related substances, as well as of articles and mixtures containing these substances.

 Greenpeace has called on outdoor clothing brands to set short-term deadlines for phasing out the use of all poly-fluorinated chemicals (PFCs) in production processes in the wake of new research in which it claims to have found traces of PFCs in snow samples taken from remote mountain ranges and lakes in ten countries across three continents.
