The printed ETLG is a 100 + page  A5 booklet designed for manufacturers, retailers and buyers who are committed to reducing the impact of textiles on the environment and lists all the labels and environmental standards relevant to the global textile and clothing supply chain.

As well as covering raw materials, the 2014 edition of ETLG will offer information on social criteria, such as Fairtrade, Fair labour, SA8000 etc., and textile processing standards.

New additions will also include information on water standards, energy use, and sections on disposal and biodegradability.

The Oeko-Tex Association have also announced the launch of of STeP (Sustainable Textile Production) - a revised version of its Standard 1000 which measures sustainability in production plants.

Eco Circle Plantfiber, the bio-derived polyester fibre developed by global Japanese technology business Tejin, has been selected for use in the seats and interior trim surface of the Nissan Leaf. It is the first time this textile fibre has been used for the interiors of a mass-produced vehicle.

The Greenpeace campaign to 'detox' the global textile supply chain has suffered an embarrassment, after the chemicals it was campaigning to abolish were found its own t-shirts and headwear. The pressure group has now suspended sales of all its textile merchandise.

Dyeing and finishing equipment supplier Bruckner has embarked on an 'Eco Tour of India' in a bid to help the country's manufacturers reduce their overall CO2 emissions. Bruckner's roadshow is in a joint program between the German Investment and Development Association and the German Department of the Environment program which aims to market and distribute heat-recovery technology in developing countries.

After four years of working together, Patagonia and Yulex have co-developed a unique material that allows us to make a wetsuit that is 60 per cent guayule (plant) based. Guayule is a renewable, non-food crop that requires very little water, is grown domestically in the US, uses no pesticides, and in comparison to traditional neoprene, has a very clean manufacturing process.
