Major new concerns have been raised about pollution levels found in textile wastewater effluents along the Dombivali industrial belt of Mumbai in India – a major textile manufacturing hub, where increased COD, phosphate levels and high concentrations of heavy metals have been found.

As well as covering raw materials, the 2014 edition of ETLG will offer information on social criteria, such as Fairtrade, Fair labour, SA8000 etc., and textile processing standards.

New additions will also include information on water standards, energy use, and sections on disposal and biodegradability.

China exposé names western clothing brands

New wastewater discharge regulations introduced into China’s textile industry are being flouted by the country’s dyeing and finishing sector according to an investigation by China’s Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs. In a briefing of the report supplied to Ecotextile News, IPE claims that many of these mills work with brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Uniqlo.
