Top brands snub Greenpeace survey

Six leading fashion brands snubbed a recent Greenpeace survey which asked 25 'uncomfortable' questions about their supply chains in an attempt to compare the policies of high-end fashion brands on toxic water pollution and deforestation. Greenpeace Italy’s new green ranking guide was topped by Valentino - yet Dolce&Gabbana, Chanel, Hermès, Prada, Alberta Ferretti and Trussardi refused to disclose information for the survey.

The Aid by Trade Foundation has temporarily suspended the verification of its Cotton Made in Africa (CmiA) program in Benin, west Africa with immediate effect. The move comes after the country’s government changed the framework conditions for the cotton sector such that the CmiA sustainability criteria could no longer be assured.

Textile Exchange head La Rhea Pepper is confident the organic cotton ‘brand’ won’t suffer any long-term damage in the wake of the recent Organic Trade Association report, which showed that severe drought conditions caused organic cotton production in the US to plunge by 45 per cent in 2011.
