DHAKA - Garment workers in Bangladesh are to receive a 9% pay rise in a bid to calm the unrest which has disrupted the industry since student-led protests brought down Sheikh Hasina's government in August.

The government has decided to add a 4% increase to a 5% pay increment already due to workers this month meaning that garment workers' wages will increase by a total of 9%.
