BEAVERTON - Shareholders in sportswear brand Nike have voted against a proposal demanding the company signs up to the Pakistan Accord garment and textile factory safety programme.

Their rejection of the proposal comes despite the support of major investors, including Norway's Government Pension Fund Global, which controls assets of $1.7 trillion and is Nike's ninth-largest shareholder.
