Fashion retailer C&A will next year open a new €4 million state-of-the-art denim factory in the Germany city of Mönchengladbach on the former site of textile machinery supplier Monforts.
The new ‘Factory for Innovation in Textiles’ (FIT) will be a carbon neutral denim garment and laundry facility with an initial capacity of 400,000 pairs of jeans per year – or around 2,000 garments per day.
Giny Boer, CEO of C&A Europe said the company was happy to be producing again in bulk, in the heart of Europe. “FIT will be more than just a laboratory for prototypes. It’s about production in larger numbers. Sustainable fashion must not be a niche product,” she said.
