DHAKA - Bangladesh's garment industry needs to transform itself with a focus on reducing negative impacts on the environment and its workers if it is to survive, according to a new report from PriceWaterhouseCooper (PwC).

The country is the world's second biggest garment producer after China but a recent PwC survey found that 50% of CEOs in Bangladesh felt their companies would not be economically viable within a decade on their current path.

The report, entitled 'What’s next for the readymade garments sector in Bangladesh?', urged the industry to focus on "eight major interconnected levers" for transformation, including sustainability.
