LONDON – The UK’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has pledged £80 million (US$97.7m) in support of a new 10-year initiative which will look to foster a circular fashion ecosystem across the nation.
Led by the UK Fashion & Textile Association (UKFT), British Fashion Council (BFC) and Innovate UK, the Fashion Industry Sustainable Change Programme is expected to promote circular business models amongst stakeholders while bolstering sorting and recycling infrastructure.
Representatives of those leading the programme, as well as politicians, recycling specialists and academics, were in attendance at an event held in 10 Downing Street last week where the prime minister proclaimed that the “cheque was on its way”.
