BRUSSELS - More than 220 civil society and trade union organisations have signed a joint letter calling for the European Union's proposed mandatory due diligence legislation to be strengthened.
They welcome the proposals, which would make companies responsible for human rights and environmental issues in their global supply chains, but add that "it is now urgent to address significant flaws".
The letter calls upon the European Parliament and EU member states to "improve the proposal where it is lacking" to ensure it will "effectively prevent corporate harm to human rights, the environment and climate".
