BRUSSELS - New mandatory due diligence legislation proposed by the EU to make European companies legally responsible for environmental and human rights abuses in their global supply chains must have teeth, according to a new report.
Entitled 'Suing Goliath', the report - written by the European Coalition for Corporate Justice (ECCJ) initiative - urged the EU to ensure the new law establishes clear consequences for non-compliant companies and ensures access to judicial remedy for victims.
It examines past cases in which civil proceedings have been brought against EU companies for human rights abuses and environmental harm in their global operations and value chains.
