SOUTH ASIA - More than 50 organisations have issued a joint call to brands, governments and employers in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to keep workers safe during the current third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The workers' rights groups, NGOs and trade unions say that both countries have put workers' lives at risk by exempting garment factories from lockdowns because of their economic importance.
"The current wave of COVID-19 and the spread of the Delta variant in South Asia is leading to a surge of severe illness and death in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, they said in the joint statement.
