DHAKA - Most clothing factories in Bangladesh - the world's second biggest garment exporter after China - have now locked their gates due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to owners.

It comes after the government ordered a lockdown - until at least 4th April - to limit the spread of the virus, asking citizens to stay indoors and banning all public transport.

Rubana Huq, president of the Bangladesh Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), told Ecotextile News: "Most factories are closed now except ones making PPE. Lock down is being taken very seriously."
