DHAKA - Garment factory owners in Bangladesh have been criticised after thousands of workers flocked to their workplaces in the mistaken belief they were being reopened.
Workers left their home towns and villages to return to their factories following reports that factories were reopening, although the COVID-19 lockdown was subsequently extended until at least April 11.
Both the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) were criticised after reportedly agreeing to reopen factories.
