LONDON - The Labour Behind the Label campaign has written to the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging him to put pressure on UK brands and retailers to compensate workers in garment supply chains for the money they have lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an open letter to Johnson, and also Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab and International Trade Secretary Elizabeth Truss, Labour Behind the Label's advocacy director Anna Bryher says garment workers are owed billions in unpaid wages or severance.

"The global pandemic has had a huge impact on workers in global fashion supply chains," the letter begins, quoting a Clean Clothes Campaign report which estimated that wages lost by garment workers worldwide was up to US$5.79 billion.
