YANGON – The Confederation of Trade Unions of Myanmar has called on the government to establish a team to monitor factories before they close, as it’s suspected some sites are using the excuse of material shortages to temporarily shutdown and evade labour disputes.
U Ye Naing Win, general secretary of the confederation, said: “Some are really facing a raw material shortage, but some have a large stock of raw material. Factories are trying to get rid of labour activists by taking advantage of the current situation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.”
