YANGON – The Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) has urged the government to establish a national committee to address the economic and social impacts of the coronavirus, as its industry continues to suffer in the wake of the outbreak.
Myanmar’s garment manufacturing sector has been hit hard by raw material shortages over recent weeks after China went into lockdown in late January, stalling shipments.
At least 3,000 garment workers have been left jobless since, with factories forced to temporarily close.
