AMSTERDAM – Workers’ rights group Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) has today kick-started a new campaign which challenges brands and retailers to commit to a wage assurance scheme that will guarantee supply chains workers are paid adequately.
A report from the CCC last month, called ‘Un(der)paid in the pandemic’, shone a light on the extent to which apparel workers have struggled amidst COVID-19, highlighting that millions worldwide were left without billions in wages between March and May.
As the organisation launches the ‘Pay Your Workers’ campaign, it wants to see companies take accountability for the impoverished workers who’ve continued to operate on reduced salaries over recent months, and rectify cases in which operators have been left unemployed without severance pay.
