YANGON - Trade unions in Myanmar are urging garment factory owners to shut down their plants, while paying workers their wages in full, during April because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Some 16 unions under the umbrella of the Federation of Garment Workers Myanmar (FGWM) have made the call to protect both the health and livelihood of their members.
Ma Moe Sandar Myint, acting head of the FGWM, said such a move would reduce the risk of workers contracting the virus, while ensuring they could afford to support their families.
