NEW YORK - Levi Strauss, Marks & Spencer, and the VF Corporation have joined forces with Mastercard in a pilot scheme to pay garment workers digitally in Egypt and Cambodia.
The aim is to ensure factory workers - especially women who make up 68 per cent of garment workers - get paid consistently and also to give them more control over their earnings.
Participating factories will be able to pay wages directly into the accounts of workers who can then activate debit or prepaid cards, or digital wallets, so they can pay bills or send money directly to family and friends.
