LESOTHO – A new programme launched in the African nation of Lesotho will combat gender-based violence and harassment in the apparel industry via awareness training and a confidential reporting system.
The initiative, which will support an initial 10,000 workers across four garment factories, has been backed by Levi’s, Kontoor Brands and welfare charity The Children’s Place.
It comes more than a year after the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) unearthed that female workers in the country had been forced into sex with their managers to keep their jobs or earn promotions.
