GLOBAL - Brands appear to be heeding calls to do more to protect the livelihoods of workers in their supply chains from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic with leading names, including Primark, C&A and VF Corp, all pledging more help.
The three were among brands and retailers last week named and shamed for cancelling or postponing orders from suppliers in Bangladesh, where more than a million garment workers have lost their jobs, in a report by the Centre for Global Workers' Rights, part of Penn State University.
Campaigning groups, including the Clean Clothes Campaign, Labour Behind the Label and Human Rights Watch, have also condemned brands for cancelling orders, including those completed or in production, and refusing to pay for them.
