Policy makers around the world are looking to introduce legislation to limit Chinese-owned online retailers, such as Shein and Temu, from taking advantage of 'de minimis' loopholes to evade import duties and customs checks on their direct to consumer parcels.

More than 90 countries have implemented de minimis thresholds, allowing goods below a specified value to be exempt from duties and taxes.
