NEWCASTLE - A combined research team from Australia, the Philippines and the UK has found that washing clothing by hand can shed just as many microfibres as laundry washed in a machine.
The report, 'Shedding off-the-grid: The role of garment manufacturing and textile care in global microfibre pollution', conducted by the Isabela State University in the Philippines, Wollongong University in Australia and seven other universities across the UK, explored how hand washing laundry often involves a lot of scrubbing and abrasion that generates loose fibres.
