WASHINGTON – A consortium launched by US technology firm Conservation X Labs will offer US$650,000 for solutions that help combat the ocean’s microplastics problem.

Backed by the likes of sportswear firm Under Armour, surf wear brand Finisterre and materials manufacturer Bolt Threads, as well as industry NGOs Fashion for Good, Canopy and the Microfibre Consortium, the challenge will commence from tomorrow, after a virtual launch event.

“By harnessing planetary genius, we can allow conservation to operate at the pace and on the scale necessary to keep up with, and even get ahead of, the planet’s toughest environmental challenges,” said Conservation X Labs co-founder, Alex Dehgan.
