DHAKA - Pressure is growing on the Bangladesh garment manufacturing industry - the world's second biggest after China - for a significant increase in the minimum wage.

It comes as the country's Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) think tank called for the minimum wage for garment workers to be more than doubled to BDT 17,568 ($160) a month.

The minimum wage for garment workers has been BDT 8,000 ($73) since 2018 and unions are demanding a rise to BDT 23,000 ($209) a month.
