WASHINGTON – US fashion companies are deeply concerned about deteriorating US–China bilateral relations and they plan to accelerate ‘reducing China exposure’ to mitigate these risks, according to a new report from the US Fashion Industry Association (USFIA).
Put together with major input from associate professor Sheng Lu at the University of Delaware, this year’s annual study was based on a survey of 30 leading US fashion companies (over 77% with 1,000+ employees) from April to June 2023.
Over 40% of respondents now reported sourcing less than 10% of their clothing from China, up from 30% of respondents a year ago – and double that of only 20% pre-pandemic in 2019.
