AMSTERDAM - The Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) has reported that the number of farmers committing to organic cotton in India has tripled in a year with 74,000 now taking part in its programme.
The 2021-2022 season increase recorded in the OCA's latest annual 'Farm Programme Impact Report' comes on top of an 83 per cent increase the previous year to 22,000 from the 12,000 who took part in 2019/20.
The multi-stakeholder organisation had predicted a big leap this year due to a sharp rise in the number of in-conversion farmers working towards fully certified organic cotton status, from 4,000 to 22,500 compared to the previous season.
