AMSTERDAM - A new research project led by the Organic Cotton Accelerator (OCA) claims to have identified the best crop diversification practices to enable India's organic cotton farmers to better protect both the environment and their livelihoods.
Focusing on five cotton-growing states, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Gujarat and Rajasthan, the project worked with farmers and local experts to ensure that regional farming nuances and agro-climatic conditions were taken into account.
The resulting report, ‘Boosting Biodiversity and Improving Farmer Livelihoods Through Crop Diversification’, reveals the key levers to promote crop diversification on farms to maximise income generation, according to the authors.
