AMSTERDAM - The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) has launched a 'Decarbonisation Programme' which will require its corporate members to set Science Based Targets (SBTs) from next year.
The SAC's Decarbonisation Programme will aim to drive the sector to work towards the "ambitious, urgent and necessary emissions reduction" that would be needed to stay within the limits of the Paris Agreement.
The World Resources Institute (WRI) estimated apparel sector emissions at 1.025 gigatonnes (Gt) of CO2e in 2019, roughly two per cent of the global total, and says these will reach 1.588 Gt by 2030 if left unchecked.
