FRICK – After over a decade of research, the Swiss organic agricultural research institute FiBL, has released two new varieties of organic cotton seed to farmers in India that are derived from American upland cotton and traditional Indian Desi cotton.
Developed with partners such as Indian farming projects Pratibha Syntex and Chetna Organic along with India’s Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, CottonConnect and the Organic Cotton Accelerator, the new varieties are said to be the first ever Indian cotton varieties bred under organic conditions available to all farmers.
