LENZING - Austrian wood-based fibre producer Lenzing has signed a 20-year contract with two green energy companies to build a solar plant to power the fibre and pulp plant at its Lenzing base.
The deal with Enery and Energie Steiermark involves the construction of a 5.5 megawatts-peak (MWp) photovoltaic plant near Deutschlandsberg, in the Austrian state of Styria, to increase Lenzing's energy independence and reduce its carbon footprint.
The electricity generated will supply the company's fibre and pulp plant at its Lenzing site after commissioning from the fourth quarter of 2023. The electricity supply contract is limited to 20 years.
