BRUSSELS - European textile recycling could be a €6-8 billion (US$6.3-8.4bn) industry employing about 15,000 workers by 2030, according to a new report from the textile and clothing industry body Euratex.
Euratex launched its ReHubs initiative in 2020 to work out how best to deal with the extra textile waste that will be collected when separate collections become mandatory under EU legislation in 2025.
It has now completed its first ReHubs Techno Economic Master Study (TES) which predicts the future scale of the European textile recycling industry and sets out the next steps to build up the necessary recycling infrastructure.
