BRUSSELS - European textile and clothing industry trade body Euratex has urged the European Commission and European Union (EU) member states to act to accelerate the sector's post-pandemic recovery.
However, it urged Europe to take a market-proof approach to moving towards sustainability and the circular economy to ensure that it did not damage the competitiveness of the sector.
"The green transition should carefully balance the cost of this transition process and the long-term benefits. The green and digital transition is challenged by the economic crisis. Business and citizens may rapidly lose interest if the transition does not provide any short/mid-term benefit," said a Euratex statement.
