BEIJING - US retail giant Walmart is the latest to be targeted by a backlash from China against western companies which have distanced themselves from the country's Xinjiang region over forced labour concerns.
The Chinese Communist Party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) accused Walmart of "stupidity and short-sightedness" after its Sam's Club subsidiary removed Xinjiang-sourced products from stores.
Walmart declined to comment when approached by Ecotextile News. Sam's Club came under attack in China after news outlets shared videos and screenshots on the Weibo social media platform showing that products from Xinjiang had been removed from the store's online app.
