BRUSSELS - A coalition of 47 civil society and trade union organisations has sent an open letter to the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressing concern that proposed mandatory due diligence legislation has been delayed.
The new law, which would make brands and retailers which operate in the single market liable for environmental and human rights issues in their global supply chains, was due this month but has been put back to 2022.
In the letter, the organisations call on Von der Leyen to publicly reiterate the European Union's commitment to addressing corporate abuse through mandatory due diligence legislation.
