SYDNEY – Australian and Italian wool trade association bosses have urged Aussie growers to heed market trends and produce non-mulesed wool where possible, despite recent comments made by the director of the Australian Wool Growers Association, Chick Olsson, who encouraged people to “use the tools they see fit”.
Olsson – who developed Tri-Solfen, a pain relief product for breech modification techniques including mulesing – last month stated that previous attempts to ban mulesing had divided wool growers and “almost destroyed” the industry.
Josh Lamb, president of the Australian Council of Wool Exporters and Processors, told Sheep Central: “It’s not the role of AWI to tell growers what to do, but it is 100 per cent their responsibility to provide them with all the information and tools so growers can then make the most informed management and marketing decisions to suit their own clip.”
