DHAKA - The new International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry - which aims to ensure workplace safety for garment workers in Bangladesh - has come into effect with 77 international apparel brands and retailers so far signed up.
Workers' rights campaigners are urging fashion companies which have not already done so to back the new agreement which eventually aims to expand to other supply chain production countries.
Companies which have so far signed up to the new agreement include H&M, Zara owner Inditex, C&A, Bestseller, ASOS, Benetton, Esprit, Uniqlo owner Fast Retailing, Marks & Spencer, and Zalando.
