SAN FRANCISCO – Environmental campaign group Stand.Earth has released its first ‘Fossil Free Fashion Scorecard’ report which assesses brands' efforts on climate change and concludes that most are failing to take effective action.
The initiative assessed 47 fashion companies on the steps they were taking to eliminate fossil fuels and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing, materials and shipping.
It says the fashion industry continues to rely heavily on coal to power the manufacturing of its products, contributing to rising climate emissions and air pollution in countries, such as Vietnam and Bangladesh, where its supply chain is concentrated.
