VANCOUVER – Global industry non-profit Textile Exchange (TE) has introduced a new voluntary standard to ensure that alpaca wool is responsibly sourced from farmers with high animal welfare standards.
The Responsible Alpaca Standard (RAS) has been launched online with standard and supporting documents which have been published in both English and Spanish.
It addresses farm-level animal welfare practices as well as land management and social welfare at the farm. Chain of custody certification ensures that the fibre from certified farms is properly identified and tracked through production.
