LAPU-LAPU - Garment workers at a factory in the Philippines - which supplies US brand J Crew - are to sue their employer in the courts rather than go on strike over alleged illegal dismissals and union busting.
The remaining 76 union members working at the First Glory factory had been planning to strike on behalf of 300 former workmates - including the union president and other officers - who were laid off in November.
Cristito Pangan, president of the First Glory labour union, said: “The union is now preparing to file a case at the National Labour Relations Commission and with the assistance of Partido Manggagawa (Labour Party), we are confident of winning our complaint for illegal dismissal and union busting.”
