NEWARK – A new Better Buying Index report has been published today, providing comparable year-on-year supplier data from 2018 and 2019 on how brands and retailers engage with those in their value chain, and whether they exhibit fair and sustainable practices.
The not-for-profit’s latest report assesses the feedback of 873 suppliers, surveys of which have been facilitated by fashion firms including G-Star and Eileen Fisher in order to gauge which areas have registered the biggest improvements and where exactly there’s scope for further attention.
Findings show that in the remit of sourcing and order placement, companies registered an average score of just 31 out of 100 (down from 41), and this will likely get worse after next year’s findings are in, due to the nature in which firms retracted orders amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
