LONDON – The impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the fashion and textile industries is expected to lead an increasing number of brands and retailers to nearshore their supply chain operations over the coming years, according to market analytics authority GlobalData.
With China the first to enforce a nationwide lockdown at the start of the year, it highlighted how reliant many businesses are on suppliers in the country. “Brands were left in limbo,” Hannah Abdulla, GlobalData’s apparel correspondent says. “Many will look to bring production as close to home as possible.”
