DHAKA - The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh - the body set up to ensure garment factory safety on behalf of European brands following the Rana Plaza disaster - has handed over its duties.
The Accord has closed down its operations and handed over to a new body, the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC), which is led by the Bangladesh Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) in association with brands and unions.
The RSC will continue the Accord's work including factory inspections, remediation monitoring, safety training and an independent safety and health complaints mechanism available to workers in garment factories.
