DHAKA - German retailer Tchibo has become only the second company sourcing from Bangladesh to back calls for a legally-binding agreement to underwrite the new tripartite body which has taken over responsibility for garment factory safety in the country.
The Readymade Sustainability Council (RSC) - which is controlled three ways by factory owners, brands and trade unions - took over from the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh last year.
However, the legal agreement which formed part of the Accord, which makes brands and retailers legally responsible for safety in the factories that make their clothes, runs until the end of this month.
