YANGON – Garment workers from three firms in Yangon, Myanmar, have marched to the City Hall today in protest over poor working conditions, low wages and their employers’ efforts to suppress their right to demonstrate.
According to local reports, factory bosses have dismissed union leaders in a bid to quash organised movements. Workforces are now coming together and demanding labour arbitrators to settle the dispute and have called for more regular site inspections to ensure employers are acting in compliance with the law.
