FUKUSHIMA – Seven years on from the devastation caused by an earthquake, tsunami and a nuclear disaster, cotton – a crop which thrived in Japan until about a century ago – is going from strength to strength once again in Fukushima.
Started by local residents in 2012, the Fukushima Organic Cotton Project is behind this upturn in fortunes and is said to have increased the amount of cotton the region harvests tenfold since 2013.
