What’s new in 2022?
Impact Calculator
OEKO-TEX® supports climate change action and has launched the Impact Calculator - a tool which calculates both carbon and water footprint. This user-friendly digital tool provides production facilities with an initial estimate and assessment on the materials and process steps that contribute most to their overall environmental impact, allowingfacilities to improve operations, meet reduction targets and share their achievements with customers, investors and other stakeholders. Understanding and reporting carbon emissions and water usage across various production stages will likely be a standard requirement of every textile-related business in the future. The tool is available to any textile or leather production facility applying for or already holding a STeP by OEKO-TEX® certification.
RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS by OEKO-TEX®
In mid-2022, OEKO-TEX® will introduce RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS by OEKO-TEX®, a new certification for brands, retailers and traders committed to international agreements for human rights and environmental protection. It has been developed in accordance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the relevant OECD Guidelines on Responsible Business Conduct. With this new certification we will support companies in fulfilling due diligence obligations within their own operations and their global textile and leather supply chains. These include supply chain mapping, risk identification, implementation of a complaints mechanism and public reporting. The pilot phase of the project is currently running, which we will be reporting on in the spring.
