TOKYO – Japanese fibre manufacturer Teijin Frontier has confirmed the global roll-out of its Biofront polylactic acid (PLA) resin which, with applications in the textiles and nonwovens sectors, is said to biodegrade at a faster rate compared to conventional PLA products.
The resin, which is now fully commercialised both in Japan and on international markets, uses a novel biodegradation accelerator in the polymer that is designed to enhance its decomposition rate without significantly compromising strength, crystallinity or moldability.
