BERLIN – In mid-2021, the German Supply Chain Act was celebrated as a milestone for mandatory human rights due diligence, however, as the law approaches its two-year anniversary, its future remains uncertain.

Senior government ministers have now questioned its necessity, arguing that reporting obligations under the Act should be repealed given the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), is set to take effect in 2027.
